PERSON
Alexander Reiff (*1991) is a composer of new music, electronic music, sound art as well as commercial, film and video game music. He is currently teaching music theory and composition at the Philipps University of Marburg and is employed as a stage manager at Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt. With the support of the Germany-Scholarship he began to study composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt since 2019. He has been studying music, mathematics and philosophy in the Master of Education since 2016 with a musical focus on music theory / composition and intercultural music exchange at the Johannes Gutenberg University and the Hochschule für Musik Mainz. He also studied music pedagogy and classical percussion at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz, where he passes the State Music Teacher Examination (SMP). In 2016 he received a special prize in the artistic competition of the Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH) and was able to compete in the finale of the Quattropole Musikpreis for the city of Trier in 2019.
By working as a composer and arranger for bands and choirs, his compositions are influenced by international folklore, jazz and hip-hop. You can also find socio-critical, scientific and mathematical approaches in his works. With many years of ensemble / orchestra, theater and big band experience, he is open to cross-genre collaborations between composers, performers, dancers etc. and is interested in today's intermedia art projects. His previous works include chamber music compositions, which are located in the field of concept art and cover current topics such as social media or language change, but also science and philosophy.
